Turmeric:
Turmeric is native to Indonesia and south India. It was traditionally known as “Indian saffron” because of its similarity in color. Turmeric has a concentrated source of a phytonutrient called curcumin which gives it it’s natural yellow color. Curcumin has an incredible ability to reduce inflammation and promote optimal liver function. It also has a rich source of minerals such as manganese and iron.
Health promoting benefits of turmeric:
Anti-inflammatory, numerous studies have shown curcumin and crucumoide in turmeric to have a very comparative effect on inflammation as many potent prescription over-the-counter medications.
Promotes joint health. In a recent study of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, crucumin produced a reduced duration of morning stiffness, lightened walking time and reduced joint swelling.
Promotes heart health. In a cholesterol study, volunteers who consumed 500mg of curcumin per day for 7 days, experienced a 12% reduction in total cholesterol, a 33% reduction of oxidized cholesterol and a 29% increase in HDL cholesterol
Liver health. According to the National Institutes of Health, crucumin and a major effect on alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD) as well as non-Alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) There are multiple types of liver inflammation (hepatitis) that may benefit from this amazing spice, including autoimmune hepatitis.
