Capsaicin

 

Capsaicin comes from chili peppers and may sooth pain when applied to the skin. Topical capsaicin seems to be helpful for all sorts of pain. Studies have found it can help relieve pain from rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriasis, shingles and diabetic neuropathy. It may also offer natural pain relief for back pain, fibromyalgia and headaches. 


Other studies have shown capsaicin may help to speed up metabolism, lower blood pressure, curb the appetite, as well as aid in digestion.  


Caution should be used if you are taking blood thinner medications or certain types of blood pressure medications like ACE inhibitors. 


Capsaicin is typically tolerated well topically, however talk to your healthcare practitioner before considering to consume it orally.
